Cleansing Your Home: Part 4: Clothing
I must say that this is one of my favorite parts of the de-cluttering process: going through clothing!
We have 3 people in our home, so it will take at least three nights to get through everything. Since the weekend is coming up, we will start on Saturday, Feb. 1st. That will give everyone a break to enjoy life!
Day 1: Your clothing
Day 2: Your spouse's clothing (My husband NEVER goes through his clothes, he just keeps getting more!)
Day 3: Children's clothing
- If you have more than one child, you may want to switch the days so you can get all of your children's clothing done on Sunday.
Here are some guidelines to help sift through the clutter:
1: If you haven't worn the item in 6 months, take it out of the closet. Go through this pile after you've gone through everything.
2: Turn all of your hangers around. Each time you wear a shirt turn that hanger the right way again. After 6 months, you will see what you haven't worn. It is safe to say that you won't wear these items, so you can donate them.
3: Seriously consider the amount of clothing that you have. Most of us could stand to get rid of a pair of jeans or a couple of shirts that we don't really like.
Use these to guide you while you go through your closet:
40 Hanger Closet
Organizing Your Wardrobe
50 Classics Checklist
Happy Sorting!! :)

Cleansing Your Home: Part 3: The Media
*SORRY I wasn't able to get this up sooner! My family has been held hostage under a nasty cold for the past week. :( It's been hard to get anything accomplished!*
This week is all about the media in your home: newspapers, books, magazines, movies, etc. Day by day we will go through different forms until you have conquered the "mass" of media.
Day 1: Books
Day 2: Movies
Day 3: Magazines and Newspapers
Day 4: CDs
Day 5: Photos
Day 6 & 7: Any other papers or leftover
We will start tomorrow, January 21st. So take a break today and admire your hard work!

Cleansing Your Home: Part 2: Are Your Bathrooms Looking Better?
I'm hoping everybody had time to follow at least a couple days of the calendar I posted last week. My bathroom looks 10 times better!
I'm hoping everybody had time to follow at least a couple days of the calendar I posted last week. My bathroom looks 10 times better!
I found a cute little basket to hold all of my little one's bath supplies in the shower so my counter looks much better!
My medicine cabinet definitely benefited from some cleaning out!
I can't tell you how much packaging I threw away from things under the sink! Boxes and packaging that only have one or two things left in them can usually be thrown to create easier stacking.
The only thing that still needs managing is the sheets! :) What can I say, I'm not perfect!
Even though I still have plenty more to clean out in other rooms, it felt SO good to clear out one room of stuff that we will not use. I can't tell you how many products I was able to donate or throw out!! I can't wait to start the next room :)
How do you feel after cleansing one room in your house?

Cleansing Your Home: Part 1: The Bathrooms
Now, I don't want to overwhelm anyone with this project, so each day's task should be easily completed after work. They are all small projects that shouldn't take more than an hour. If you're not able to follow the calendar to a "T", don't beat yourself up about it! You must have a life also! There will be many "Free Days" where you can finish a project from the day before, or just relax and enjoy the work you have already accomplished!
While you are going through each drawer, cabinet, and closet, keep a box and a trash can next to you. The box will be for donations. Immediately throw anything that you haven't used in the last 6 months and will not use in the next 6 months into one of these two places! If you haven't used it in a year, you probably don't need it and you can free up space for things you are actually going to use. Yes, you may feel you are being ruthless or wasteful sometimes, but that is what the donation box is for!
Don't think of getting rid of these things as wasted money. Think of them as no longer being useful to you. If something isn't useful to you, why would you keep it?
Instead of tearing apart the whole house, we'll go through rooms one by one. Let's start with the easiest room to organize: The Bathroom.
Now I am going to do something really gross: Show you my unclean home....

Now I am going to do something really gross: Show you my unclean home....
I call it unclean because I clean the surfaces on a regular basis so it's not really dirty, but more cluttered.
Lots of clutter...
Yes, that is my son's bath toy on the counter...
These are my before photos...
This is my cupboard for sheets, towels, cleaning rags, and extra bathroom items. Very unorganized!
Under the sink...
Our medicine cabinet isn't too bad, but it could use a little attention.
I can't tell you how excited I am to follow this calendar and show you my after photos!
*Didn't realize the writing would be so blurry! I will fix it and get the new calendar up soon!

New Year, New Home?
New Year, New You. Isn't that the motto? What about: New Home?
No, I don't mean we should all go out and buy a new house to live in, but, if your house looked like mine after the holidays, it could certainly do with a bout of "weight loss" and rejuvenation!
My husband and I have only been in our home for a few years, but it could certainly benefit from a good, deep cleansing! The type of cleansing that you can only get by digging deep into the cabinets and closets. Let's resolve this year to not only better ourselves, but better our lives by organizing and streamlining our homes.
Tomorrow, I will upload a January calendar to help us all clean out the mess, one room at a time!
